27 South Ocean Training are set up as an invigilator to oversee Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency exams for both short and long range operators certificates.

The minimum age to sit an exam is 16 years of age for both the short and long Range certificates.

For the Short Range Operator Certificiate Proficiency and Long Range Operator Certificate Proficiency.

Once you have passed the E-Learning assessment you are ready to sit an exam, you will need to book in with our invigilator and we will organise an exam and set a date and location for you to sit the exam. After you have completed the examination the invigilator will return the package to the OMC for marking.

Q: What is the difference between Short and Long range ?

A:The Short Range Operator Certificiate Proficiency qualification allows the operator to operate the VHF marine radiotelephony equipment only. Where the Long Range Operator Certificiate Proficiency qualification allows the operator to operate both the VHF marine radiotelephony equipment and the MF/HF marine telephony equipment.

Q: What is involved in the examination ?

A: The Short Range Operator Certificate Proficiency examination consists of a 25 multi-choice question paper (duration 30 minutes with a 70% pass mark) and a practical component. The practical component may be conducted by either the invigilator or another person nominated by the invigilator.

The Long Range Operator Certificiate Proficiency examination consists of a 50 multi-choice question paper (duration 1 hour with a 70% pass mark) and a practical component. The practical component may be conducted by either the invigilator or another person nominated by the invigilator.
